Η Smart began its journey in the automotive world following an agreement between Mercedes-Benz and Swatch with a shared vision: to create a compact, agile, and safe vehicle for urban life. The first model, the Smart City-Coupé (later renamed the Fortwo), was unveiled at the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show and officially launched in 1998. Production began at the Hambach plant in France, which remained operational until 2022.
