Mercedes-Benz has established itself as a leader in the automotive world, with over 130 years of innovations and significant achievements. Its history begins in 1886, when German engineer Karl Benz built the Benz Patent-Motorwagen and received its patent in 1886 (No. 3743), marking the beginning of the automobile as we know it today. In 1926, Mercedes-Benz was born from the merger of two companies, Benz & Cie. and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft, uniting the technology and innovations of its two founders.

Key Milestones in Its History

  • Mercedes-Benz has long been associated with innovation and safety. In 1959, it introduced the groundbreaking technology of the safety cell, which revolutionized the industry.
  • In 1978, it introduced the first ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), which enhanced safety during braking.
  • In 1981, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the first production vehicle with airbags and seatbelt tensioners, further enhancing passenger protection.
  • Further advancing its safety philosophy, in 2002 the company introduced the PRE-SAFE® system, which prepares the vehicle for an impending collision by adjusting the seat belts and closing the windows to protect the passengers.
  • Since 2013, Mercedes-Benz has integrated numerous assistance systems under the name Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive, offering a step toward autonomous driving.
  • In 2021, Mercedes-Benz made another significant leap toward electrification with the introduction of the first fully electric luxury sedan, the EQS series. This model became a milestone in the development of electric vehicles, featuring the innovative MBUX Hyperscreen, which spans the entire length of the dashboard, enhancing both the user experience and the technology of electric vehicles.
